Shop wisely- Understand food labels
Read the Nutrition Facts label on food containers. This label shows you the amount of carbohydrate, protein and calories in the foods you eat. It can also help you choose foods that are low in sodium, fat and saturated fat.
Note the serving size.
Most of the information on the Nutrition facts label is for 1 serving. The label will tell you the size of that serving and how many servings the package has.
Check the sodium and saturated fat content.
Too much sodium can raise your blood pressure. It’s best to choose foods with less than 400mg of sodium per serving. Choose frozen entrees with less than 800 mg per serving.
Saturated fat can raise your cholesterol level and lead to heart disease. Compare labels and choose foods with less saturated fat.
